Like France, the train service in Spain is excellent. As well as being connected to most of the cities and towns in the country, it is also relatively inexpensive, first class being cheaper than standard class in the UK, so that is well worth a look.
The trains used are generally modern and up to date with comfortable seats and are on time. The only time you might have a minor delay is when using the regional services except of course from those in the vicinity of Madrid or Barcelona.
There are good overnight trains from Barcelona to Malaga or Seville and a train journey from Barcelona to Bilbao, in the north of the country, takes 5 hours.
