You must have a valid passport in order to enter Spain and you may be asked to produce your passport by the police at any time to prove your identity.
No vaccinations are required to enter Spain or re-enter the United States and Canada.
Spain is four hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time in the USA and on the same time as Greenwich Mean Time.
Currency is the Euro. Major credit cards and travellers’ cheques are accepted at most hotels, restaurants and shops. ATMs offer the cheapest and most convenient method of obtaining cash.
Electricity is 220 or 225 volts, 50 Hz. Two-pin plugs are standard.

Language is Spanish, of course, but English is widely understood. Catalan, Galician and Basque are spoken in the respective provinces.

The country is proudly Roman Catholic and one of the few countries which was virtually unaffected by the rise of Protestantism due to some very devout monarchs of the time.

Many shops close between 2:00 and 4:00 pm when the Spanish shop owners have their lunch and siesta.
Smoking is banned in public places as is drinking alcohol in the streets of Madrid. If you do either, you will be issued with a hefty fine!
