A Guide to Cartagena

Located in the south of Spain the city of Cartegena is one of the oldest in the country at nearly 2300 years old. The city is universally thought of as one of the most beautiful in Spain. One of its main attractions is the stunning beach of Calblanque with beautiful golden sands overlooking the striking blue sea. Part of this beach has now become a nature reserve full of endangered and fascinating species. The maritime history of city is clearly evident by some of the statues and the monuments.

The most interesting site for some is the model prototype of a submarine. There is also the centre for underwater archaeological investigation which is worth a visit to see the fascinating discoveries that are and have been made. One of the main sites to see is the stunning Cathedral Vieja which is built on the remains of the roman theatre. There is also the breath taking Castle de la Concepcion which has been a fortress of many different cultures including the Carthaginians, Romans, Visigoths, Castillians and Arabs.

The surrounding area is fantastic and is perfect for those who enjoy taking long walks amid stunning scenery. The city of Cartegena is must visit on any trip to the region.
