A Guide to Badajoz

Situated in the region of Extremadura on the banks of the Guadiana river the city of Badajoz overlooks the border to Portugal. The city throughout history has had to be able fight due to its proximity to the border and was also a strategic position between the Moors and the Christians.

The history of the town has had many influences including Arabic, Christian and Moorish. The city wall is a fantastic Arab structure designed to defend the city against the attacks of marauding invaders. There are many other sites to see in the city including the fantastic citadel at the heart of the city and the beautiful Palace of the Dukes of Roca.

The palace also hosts the regional archaeological Museum which charts the history of the region and the rise of the town. The city of Badajoz is a fantastic place to come and visit and welcomes all visitors to the town with open arms and the perfect place to visit while on your way to Portugal.
