A Guide to Gerona

Located approximately 60 miles north of Barcelona the city of Girona is also full of the Catalan charm. It has been referred to as the perfect place for a getaway treat. Up in the mountains around Girona is a spectacular ski resort which is unknown to many outside the region and so is not crammed like those in the Alps.

For those that prefer to have a relaxing holiday lying on the beach in warmer climates the city has a fantastic beach along the Costa Brava. There are also health resorts and golf courses that like to unwind on the freeway. One of the nicest places to visit is the stunning nature reserve which contains the monastery St Daniel and the Convent of St Domenec. The beautiful Palace of the Agullana Family is amongst some of the fantastic buildings in the area. Much like many of the cities of Spain the city also has its own Cathedral which has a beautiful interior with Gothic tombs and the fascinating Tapestry of Cathedral.

In the city there are Turkish Baths which were inspired by those of the Romans with many different baths such as warm, hot and cold rooms. There are also some museums in the city such as the Archaeological museum which has many exhibitions of prehistoric, Hebrew, Roman and Greek artefacts. One of the most unique aspects of the city are the houses which are situated on the riverbank of the river. Girona is the perfect place to come as it has something for everyone and is also only a stones throw away from the great city of Barcelona.
