A Guide to Zamora

Located on the banks of the river Duero the city of Zamora was an important port during the Medieval times. The architecture is so unique that it has been given the title of being the City of Romanesque. The first thing to greet you when tou reach the city is Puente de Piedra which takes you into the city over the river. The city has thre rings of defence walls the outermost still survives today.

The most dominating sites of the city are the castle and the Cathedral. The castle of Arab origin still retains many of its key features and nearby is the Cathedral with its dome and tower and the museum inside the cathedral provides an insight into the construction of the cathedral but also the rise and history of the area. There are many other churches in the town each in the classic Romanesque style. Zamora is a unique town in the north east of the country and is a perfect place to come and experience a Spanish city without the bother of being a major tourist hotspot.
