A Guide to Segovia

The city of Segovia is located in the beautiful region of Castilla y Leon. Like many of the cities there are many sites to see in the area. The historic quarter of the city is guarded by the stunning aqueduct at its entrance. Built by the romans it brought water from over 10 miles away from the city and there are over 150 arches to the structure and comprises of lead brick and cement from the nearby materials.

There are many fantastic churches in the city most notably the church of San Martin in the Medina del Campo which is a wonderful Romanesque church with Moorish influences around the arches and capitals. Segovia claims a piece of history in that one of the most powerful and successful monarchs in the country Isabella of Castille held her coronation here. The Cathedral in the city was built in the 16th century and was made in a flamboyant Gothic style.

Throughout the cathedral we can see the remains of the old cathedral. Inside the cathedral there are some stunning sculptures by Juan de Juni and Gregorio Hernandez. The city of Segovia is beautiful and full of sites to see and is always a welcome place to visit.
