A Guide to Palencia

The city of Palentia is steeped in history and had its most prominent era in the Middle Ages and founded the first university in the country in 1208. One of the most beautiful sites to see is the city is the sculpture of Cristo del Otero, looming over the city from one area. The main site to see in the city is the stunning 14th century Cathedral which when inside there are the fantastic artwork and the crypt of San Antolin which show where the Romanesque and visigothic temples used to stand.

Once through the cathedral there is also the Cathedral museum which is always worth a look. There are many other museums in the city which are worth a look including the Diocesan Museum, which contains a large number of religious art from the region. The archaeological and Victorio Macho Museum chart the rise of the city and the history of the region. Palentia is a fantastic city to come and visit and well worth a look when you are passing through the region.
