A Guide to Avila
Widely renowned as having some of the best medieval architecture in not only the country but in Europe, the city is set in high altitude offering a cooler climate than much of the rest of Spain. The town has always been a heavily visited place as today it is a tourist hotspot and was also a pilgrimage area in the middle ages. The beautiful city walls that surround the city designed to keep out marauding forces are stunning.
There are also many other sites of interest in the city including the imposing 12th Century Gothic Cathedral as well as the temples and the Basilica of the Saint Vincent. There is a contrast between the two parts of the city the centre is busy and crowded but then when you reach the outskirts we find that the streets are calm and relaxing and the opposite to the centre. Avila is a charming Spanish city full of attractions and ready to welcome you with open arms.
