A Guide to Cuenca

Declared by UNESCO as a Patrimony of Humanity the city of Cuenca is a beautifully preserved medieval city in the heart of the Spanish countryside. The city has fantastic architecture and the stand out structure is the stunning Gothic Cathedral. There are many other attractions to go and see in the city including the fascinating archaeological museum, the Abstract Art Museum and many other churches ranging from the 12th to the 18th Centuries that make up the city centre such as Torre Magna, San Miguel and Conde de Toreno.

During the middle ages the city was particularly famous for its hanging houses which are a group of houses on the edge of a cliff of the gorge near the town. The scenery around the city is wonderful and is perfect for taking long walks and hiking and if you’re lucky you might come across some of the unique rocks which seem to have formed into shapes and have been named by the locals especially with the elephant and the Human Head.

There are also a number of nature preserves for all those that love studying the local animals and plant life. Cuenca needs to be explored it is one of these places which is stunning and the more you look the more there is to enjoy.
