A Guide to Novara
The ancient Roman settlement of Novara or Novaria is located in the heart of the lowlands. Visitors will be in awe of the rich architectural and artistic masterpieces preserved in Novara.
There are many sights to see are when in Novara such as, Novara Cathedral inside which houses the rectory Lapidary Museum, the Baptistery which is now one of the most prominent buildings of the Padana Valley; the complex of Medieval buildings known as Broletto; Palazzo del Podestà, Palazzo del Comune or Arengo and Palazzo dei Paratici, this latter housing a Modern Art Gallery with more than 900 works of art.
One can also wander along Via Pier Lombardo where one encounters the Basilica of St Gaudenzio which hosts a variety of canvases and frescoes by the major mannerist artists of the Piemonte region.
Whilst in Novara, visitors might like to explore the Palazzo Faraggiana, which conserves one of the Pieemonte region’s most important taxidermy collections. Finally, there is the “Aldo Rossini” Novara History Museum.
