A Guide to Desenzano del Garda
Desenzano del Garda is a thriving lively town on the edge of Lake Garda. It is situated in a strategic position close to Via Emilia, an important trading route between North and South Italy. It’s location helps to make it an important economic power today. The town has Roman foundations and ancient origins dating back to centuries before Christ. The Medieval town centre is delightful and captivating.
Among the many sites to see are the Palazzo del Municipio, the Cathedral of Desenzano del Garda dedicated to St Maria Maddalena, the Castle, the Cloisters of St Maria de Senioribus, the Church of St Maria Maddalena which houses a number of important paintings including a work by Giandomenico Tiepolo, the Rambotti Archeological Museum and Villa Romana. Just a few kilometres away one finds San Martino della Battaglia with a Museum and the Ossuary commemorating the Second War of Independence.
