France Nord Pas de Calais

A Guide to Calais

Calais is one of the main import and export areas in the north of France. The city is split into two halves the industrial district and the main town. The main town is the area of interest with beautiful and quaint architecture. The city is full of monuments and castles and many other sites such as the Calais castles, Calais Town Hall, Calais Theatre or the Calais Watch Tower.

A perfect place for a quiet stroll in the city is the stunning Richlieu Gardens, named after the Cardinal who was the main advisor to Louis XIII and also portrayed as the villain in Alexandre Dumas’ novel ‘The Three Musketeers. The gardens are beautiful and are second to none when in full bloom in the summer.

The city is also perfect if you want to take a day trip to Dover or to London, as it is the main connecting port to Dover and is just a stones throw away from the Cite Europe and the Channel Tunnel.
