A Guide to Strasbourg
Historically the city of Strasbourg has been the cause of much conflict between Germany and France. Situated in Alsace the area for centuries has been the subject of debate and often conflict over who owns the area along with the region of Lorraine. Found on the river Rhine the city produced a lot of wealth and both nations wished to claim this for their own. It is actually closer to many cities outside of France such as Zurich and Milan than it is to Paris.
Strasbourg is now the home of the Council Europe, the European Court of Human rights and the European Parliament. The town has the feel of a bustling city due to its prosperity and large population of over 500 000 people. However the town keeps its small town feel and quaint French ambience making it the perfect place to gain the feeling of both city and country life in just one place.
There are also many attractions in the town such as its beautiful cathedral and many museums in the town charting the rise and history of the town and the area. Strasbourg is the perfect place to come and see a perfect example of a European city as it combines the many cultures of the area that it is situated in.
