A Guide to Mulhouse

Mulhouse is located approximately 20 miles to the south of Colmar and is a huge and expansive and productive industrial city. The town once upon a time used to be a part of Switzerland but the city voted in 1798 to become a part of France and even today there is a connection to the town as many of the towns residents actually go to work in Basle.

There is not much history in the town represented in the architecture and there is no old part of the town. The architecture can easily be seen to have a major influence from Switzerland and although there are not so many architectural sites for those who like to wander around the town there are some fantastic museums charting the industrial past of the town especially the building of cars, railways, fabrics and wall paper with a mix of domestic and industrial products. There are also many other attractions within the city walls.

If you come to the town in August there is an annual jazz festival at this time, which is perfect for all those who enjoy partying. The town is a wonderful example of towns on the French Swiss border and not only has wonderful attractions in the city but also has stunning scenery outside perfect for exploring the fantastic countryside.
