One-Stop Shopping

Fabrica La Aurora, an old textile mill has been transformed into San Miguel’s upscale design center, filled with elegant boutiques and galleries. Located on Calzada de La Aurora, on the northeast side of town. Taxi recommended. Among the best shops:
*Buenos Noches, luxurious bedding and bath items, bedroom furniture; 154-9624.

*Cantadora Antiguedades, doors, cantera, large furniture and small religious items. 154-8302.

*C. DeWayne Youts, custom-made furniture, lighting and one-of-a-kind antiques. 154-8752.

*La Bottega di Casa, fine sheets, towels, tablecloths imported from Italy, and locally crafted kitchen and home goods.

*Sisal, home furnishings such as textiles, pillows, rugs, outdoor furniture; 154-8944 or 152-0388

Mercado de Artesanias, wind along an alleyway lined on both sides with booths that are busting with jewelry, leather goods, wooden toys, textiles and crafts from almost every part of Mexico. A bit on the touristy side, but worth a visit. Not far from the Fabrica La Aurora but definitely on the other end of the sophistication scale. (Entrances off of Calle Loreto and Relox, three blocks from the Jardin.)
