A Guide to Montegrotto Terme

Montegrotto Terme is situated at the base of the Euganei Hills in the middle of the Venetian Plane. It is a pretty and enchanting site situated in the ideal place to explore the rest of the Veneto region in particular Vicenza, Verona and Treviso. Montegrotto Terme was famous in the Roman times for being a rehabilitating spa centre, a tradition that is kept alive today. The name Montegrotto Terme is derived from the Roman name 'Mons Aegrottorum', which means 'the patients' mountain'.
There is an incredibly modern tourist complex which houses more than forty hotels and various leisure facilities. There are three golf courses, mountain bike routes, and excursions can be made into the Colli Euganei Park. Sights to see include the Church of St Pietro, the Eliseo and Oratory of the Madonna, the Cathedral of St Pietro and Villa Draghi, part of the cultural heritage of Montegrotto Terme. An event well worth visiting - the Butterfly Arc, an exhibition of live butterflies, the first of its kind to be created in Italy. For this event three large gardens are opened to the public; the Amazonian, Indo- Australian and African gardens.
