A Guide to Pienza
Pienza is believed to have been a site of inhabitance since the Bronze Age and is therefore well known for its history. In the fifteenth century Pope Pius II transformed Pienza into the elegant Renaissance town that we see today. The centre is a collection of perfectly preserved Renaissance buildings, such as Palazzo del Tesoriere, Palazzo Lolli, the Cathedral of the Assunta, Palazzo Piccolomini, Palazzo Borgia and Joffroy, Palazzo Comunale, Palazzo Ammanati, the Parish Church of Corsignano.
A walk around the town walls is highly recommended even for visitors only passing by the town. Pienza offers several delicacies which include the delicious pecorino cheese, sold locally. The local festivities which celebrate the land and the Chianti Rufina and Pomino wines are not to be missed.
