Italy Calabria

A Guide to Calabria

It was not until the 1980’s that the region of Calabria became a significant tourist destination. Before the 1980’s it was only known to a few for its beautiful un-spoilt countryside, towering mountains and crystal clear sea. In the 1980’s Riace fishermen made an important archaeological discovery of two bronze statues representing slaves dating back to the hellenic period. These discoveries have dramatically increased tourism in the area as visitors flock to the Museo Nazionale della Magna Grecia in Reggio to admire the superb and unique “Bronzi di Riace”, and the incredible beauty of Calabria has become known to the world. A land of splendour and diversity ,Calabria’s charming panoramic environment extends from the clear blue seas to the luscious green countryside and on to the wooded mountain slopes.
