A Guide to Queretaro
Queretaro is bang in the centre of the country 136 miles north of Mexico City. The temperature ranges at a warm 22 to 25°C throughout the year though there are often light winds during the night. UNESCO declared Queretaro a World Heritage site. There are many noticeable buildings in the city. These include the three temples of the city, which display beautiful decoration with paintings by local artists and wonderful altars.
The temples themselves are examples of the beauty of Baroque architecture. There are many other colonial buildings, which have been converted into the museums, and some of the restaurants of the town. There are many art galleries and museums around the town and these contrasts with the modern hotels and restaurants, which have sprung up.
One of the most important symbols of the city is the aqueduct which provides the city with most of its water and has undergone many restorations since its was built in the colonial era. There are lots of little towns around the city, which provide great day outings like visiting the Franciscan monasteries or the swimming resorts of Tequisquiapan or the archaeological ruins of Ranas and Toluquilla.
Queretaro is one of the most picturesque towns in Mexico and is a stones through from other resorts and so is a must stop for any holiday.
