A Guide to Morelia
Moriela is the state capital of Michoacan and was built during the Viceregal era. It is 187 miles west of Mexico City and the average temperature during the summer is approximately 20°C. There are many cultural attractions to the town, including many colonial structures like the Palacio Nacional and the Cathedral, which is a Baroque, inspired structure with pink ashlars.
The town also hosts a range of festivals including international film and music. There are many nature reserves around the town including the butterfly sanctuary. All around the town are the Tarascan Indians and their archaeological ruins can be seen throughout the town giving an important insight into the history of the town, as do the clothes and the arts and crafts that they make.
There are also many restaurants around the town which each serve regional delicacies like their regional Tamales and their candied fruit. Moriela is a picturesque town in the heart of Mexico with regional cuisines and fantastic cultural architecture and is a must visit on any trip.
