A Guide to Guanajuato

Guanajuato is the cultural capital of the Bajio region. By Mexican standards the average temperature of Guanajuato is fairly mild at 17°C. The city centre is a cultural haven with many civic and religious buildings and attractions. These were built predominantly in the 17th Century during the mining era in the initial colonial surge from Europe.

One of the town’s main attractions are the underground tunnels, which run from one side of the city to the other. The city is renound for its cultural past times and the evidence is all around you from the fountains in the plazas to the International Cervantes Festival held every year, which brings down artists from all different cultures.

There are many museums around the city including the Mummy Museum, which tells you everything, and more you need to know about the mummification process. There is also the theatre in town, which virtually always has a performance happening at one time and is always worth a night out. Many say that the restaurants in the town have some of the best food in Mexico but there is always a whole range of cuisines for whatever mood you are in.
