A Guide to Granada

Probably the most famous city in Andalusia the city of Granada was the last city which the Moors held before they were eventually expelled out of Spain by Isabella and Ferdinand. As we have seen with most of the cities in Andalusia the city of Granada has been heavily influenced by many different cultures including the Islamic Moors and Spanish Christians.

The city was an area where Muslims, Jews and Christians could all live together in a tolerant cohesive society. When the Moors were eventually driven out they left behind one of the most beautiful cities in the world. One of the main sites to see in the city of Granada was the hill of Alhambra which was the stronghold which they used to try and keep out the attacking Spanish forces. It is here that you can stroll around the gardens and witness the stunning architecture and carvings in the marble and wood decorations.

It is one of the most popular cities in the country and is visited by people from all over the coming to view city as it sticks out against the rest of the country. If you are really fortunate you may arrive in the city in time for one of the cities wonderful festivals both Christian and Muslim when the whole city celebrates together. The city is also in a prime location at the foot of the Sierra Nevada which is fantastic place for tackling winter sports.

The city of Granada has everything you could want and more it is one of the most beautiful cities in the country and is an understated rival to the giants of Madrid and Barcelona.
