Italy Valle d'Aosta

A Guide to Aosta

The beautiful Alpine town of Aosta has interesting historical foundations, as it was settled by the Romans in 25BC after the Romans sold the ruling tribe to the slave market. Aosta was fundamentally a Roman military camp but little remains from this age. More links can be found of medieval Aosta in the town today. The town has a particularly Alpine culture with cobbled lanes and tall buildings with overhang the streets accessing the refreshing mountain air.

The town is surrounded by the stunning peaks of Monte Bianco and the Gran Paradiso which is situated in the Parco Nazionale del Gran Paradiso. There are a few old castles to be seen in between the Alpine ski resorts and the town of Aosta. Aosta is a perfect location to explore the North West of the Valle d’Aosta.
