A Guide to Nicosi

Nicosia is an inland town in the north-eastern quarter of Sicily. Its position makes it an excellent base for exploring many other towns and cities. There is an elegant mix of Medieval and Baroque architecture to discover, the churches and Palazzi being some of the best representations.

Traditional crafts thrive in Nicosia with the production of colourful carpets and hand woven baskets. However the majority of the town has been built out of another local produce, the local stone carved by masons. There is a host of activities and festivities taking place in Nicosia throughout the year.

These include: I fotografi incontrano Nicosia, the Infiorata, the regional Cycling championship, the Festa della Montagna, Estate Nicosiana, the Agriculture and Zootecnia exhibition, the Palio Nicosiano, the Regional Kart championship, U Scuontro, the Festa di San Francesco di Paola, the Sagra dei maccheroni al sugo, the Festa del beato Felice di Nicosia, the Madonna della Catena, the Festa di San Michele, the Madonna dell Aiuto and Natale Nicosiano.
