A Guide to Marsala
Marsala is located on the most western tip of Sicily, facing towards Tunisia. It has great historical importance after being involved in the saga of the Risorgimento when Giuseppe Garibaldi chose Marsala for his landing point with his ‘thousand men’.
The coast is splendidly beautiful with clean waters and beaches. The wine industry is prominent in Marsala, still producing the oldest Italian DOC wines. The sumptuous wines can be sampled in the International Wine Show Vinoro. Sites in the town include: the Giuseppe Garibaldi Museum, the Stagnone Nature Reserve, the Withaker Museum, the Archeological Park (from Porta Nuova to the Boeo seafront), the Grotta della Sibilia Lilybetana and the Mosaics of the Roman Insula.
The town has a busy calendar of festivities and events during the summer months. These include the Festival of the Patron Saint, the Madonna della Cava, the Festival of St Giuseppe, the Festival of St Giovanni, and the Marsala DOC Jazz Festival.
