A Guide to Enna
Enna’s location is what makes it so spectacular. Perched on a mountain top in central Sicily it has arguably the most spectacular view over the island. Due to its obviously strategic position it has changed hands many times and has a fascinating history.
The centre has preserved its medieval buildings well and there is a host of interesting sites to explore: Palazzo Varisano and the Varisano Museum, the Alessi Museum, Palazzo Pollicarini and the Town Library of Palazzo Chiaramente. The spiritual buildings of Enna include the Church of St Bartolomeo, the Church of the Madonna di Valverde, the Church and Convent of Montesalvo, the Church of the Anime Sante and the Church of the Santissimo Crocifisso.
The nearby Lake Pergusa is a great natural attraction and famous for its blood red color which is created by Microscopic organisms. The lake is part of a protected Lake Special Nature Reserve and not only for its dramatic color but also for the large numbers of wildlife that live in and on the lake.
