A Guide to Sassari
Sassari is the third largest city in Italy and the second most populated city of Sardinia. From Sassari there are beautiful panoramic views of the Gulf of Asinara. The town has an historic heart with a wealth of monuments to see including Palazzo Ducale, Palazzo Giordano, the Rosello Fountain, Palazzo della Frumentaria, the Church of St Nicola, the Jesuit College and the Civic Theatre.
There are many other attractions in the area such as Sassari Cathedral, the Convent of the delle Cappuccine Nuns, Palazzo della Provincia, the Church of St Sisto, the Church of the Madonna del Carmelo, the Church of S. Antonio Abate and the Church of St Giacomo.
Tere are over thirty kilometres of stunning beaches along the coast of Sassari including Paltamona, Fiume Santo, Argenteria and Porto Ferro. There are various Sardinian plants including myrtle, arbutus or strawberry tree, and lentisk or mastic tree in the fruitful Mediterranean vegetation. There is water in the Pilo and Paltamona pond, the Bunnari Basin and Lake Baratz. Local celebrated events include the Cavalcade, the Candelieri and the Rituals of the Holy Week.
