A Guide to Alghero
Alghero is located in a stunning position between two adjacent bays of Rada di Alghero and Baia di Porto Conte, its fantastic location has encouraged mankind to settle in the town since prehistoric times.
Alghero is a nature lover’s paradise with Noah’s Ark’s Oasis being a particular treat as it has over a hundred species of exotic animals. A marine reserve can be found at Punta Ghisciera along with spectacular sea beds at Punta del Giglio and Capo Caccia. It also has a large strip of land of old Olive groves which is greatly admired.
Sights to see include Palazzo d'Abis, Palazzo Machin, the Portal Tower, the Esperò Reial Tower, the Tower of St Jaume, the Romanesque Bastions and Fertilia Bridge. An itinerary of great interest, is that encompassing the various ecclesiastical buildings of Alghero including the Cathedral of St Maria, the Church of the Misericordia, the Sanctuary of Valverde, the Church of St Francesco, and the Church of St Michele. Local craftsmanship features the production of ornamental objects.
