A Guide to Urbino

Urbino is in the north of the Marche region and is famous for the wealth of illustrious artists that were either born in Urbino or worked there during their lifetime, Raphael (Raffaello Sanzio ) being the greatest name amongst them. His house is a fascinating site worth visiting.

Indeed Urbino is known as the "Cradle of the Italian Renaissance" and alongside Raphael you can find other great names such as Donato Bramante, Girolamo Genga, Federico Barocci, Federico Brandanti, and Nicola da Urbino. As well as fame for supplying the country with some of the Renaissance masters, Urbino is one of the most charming towns of the Marche.

To appreciate what Urbino has to offer you can visit the National Gallery of the Marche, the Albani Museum, the Gessi Museum, the Archeological Museum, Raffaello's House and the Typography Museum.

Among the religious buildings those of greatest importance are Urbino Cathedral, the Church of St Francesco, the Church of St Domenico, the Church of St. Spirito, the Church of St Chiara and the Synagogue.
