A Guide to Loreto

Loreto is a hill town which is famous worldwide as being the destination of religious pilgrimages. The pilgrims arrive to visit the Sanctuary of the Santa Casa, which once offered hospitality to Jesus of Nazareth. The Sanctuary is not only worth visiting for its sacred importance but also for its works of art by artists such as Bramante, Baccio and Pontelli.

Other tourist attractions include the magnificent Piazza della Madonna, Palazzo Apostolico, the Art Museum and the 16th Century Bastions. Loreto has maintained its production of traditional crafts and you will find the production of silverware, religious souvenirs, brier pipes and musical instruments by talented craftsmen and women here.

You can still find long held traditional dishes on the menus in Loreto, with delicious vincigrassi being served here since the Jacobean period. Local festivities can be enjoyed during the International Cappella Musical Review and the Festa della Venuta della Santa Casa.
