A Guide to Fano

Another beautiful seaside town, Fano is found north of Ancona on the Adriatic coast. The coast line of Fano comprises of a mixture of sandy and pebbly beaches that stretch out over many kilometers. The town is now a popular coast town for tourists. Whilst operating as a fishing port the harbor is also welcome to leisure boats. As a settlement it dates back to Roman times when it was once called 'Fanum Fortunae'.

There is an amazing collection of Roman sites to be discovered which include Palazzo della Ragione, the Fountain della Fortuna, the Borgia Cybo Arch, the Loggia del Sansovino, the Church of St Domenico, Fano Cathedral and the Logge of St. Michele.

There are many other attractions in the town such as the Arch of Augusto, the Roman Walls, the Basilica of Vitruvio, the Bastion of St. Gallo, the Church of St Pietro in Valle, the Malatestiane Arches and the Civic Museum with Art Gallery.

Alongside this vast collection of ancient treasures there is a busy calendar of entertainment to be found in Fano. The In Canto and Le Voci in Lirica, the Fano carnival, the Fano Film Festival, Fano Theatre, the International Polyphonic Meeting, the Antiques fair and "Fano Jazz by the Sea" are a few examples of the events that you can appreciate.
