A Guide to Cinque Terre
Cinque Terre is collection of five ‘lands’, as its name describes. The five perilously-perched villages include: Monterosso, Vernazza, Coniglia, Menarola and Riomaggiore and these make up the Nature reserve of Cinque Terre. Cinque Terre has maintained a unique authentic atmosphere and the fishing industry still thrives today.
The Cinque Terrre’s traditional appearance is accompanied by the traditional festivities that include the Lemon fair, the Festival Bandistico, the Nut Tournament, the Anchovy and Olive oil fair and the Fireworks display of August 14th. The area is protected due to the amazing landscapes of numerous bays and peninsulas, but especially the agricultural terraces that are now are a traditional feature of the landscape.
Walking between the towns is an ideal way to explore the ancient pathways that still link the towns. Some of the most popular roots are Riomaggiore-Monterosso, Biassa-Riomaggiore, La foce-Riomaggiore, Monterosso-Santuario di Soviore, Monterosso-Punta Mesco, and Riccò del Golfo-Vernazza. The sea itself also has a lot to offer and at Panettone it is a fantastic spot for deep sea diving.
