A Guide to Palestrina
Located not far from, Rome this is a town with a strong historical background. It was once the site of the Etruscan town Praeneste. Remains of this are still visible whilst the town of Palestrina that we find today is set in the heart of an ancient Roman temple. The place itself is almost an outdoor museum, however there is an excellent museum, in the traditional sense, to be enjoyed.
The Museo Archeologico is found on the highest point in the town and pieces together the fragments of Etruscan and Roman finds from the area. The most stunning exhibit is what was once at the heart of the ancient temple: the beautiful Nile Mosaic. Other attractions around the town include the cathedral and the old centre with the ancient temple as well as the peaceful circular walks that you can explore, taking you on paths with fabulous views.
