A Guide to Le Mans
Le Mans is world-renowned. It fame comes from the 24 hour race that is held within its walls annually. Indeed during the race which is in June, this is the only time that the town get any major tourism, other than this the town is fairy quiet and sleepy.
The town is located 50 miles north west of Tours and has good travel connections between Tours and Angers. There are a number of churches within the town but most important is the Cathedrale St Julien, which was the venue of the marriage of Geoffrey Plantagenet to Matilda of England who gave birth to Henry II of England who at one point owned most of France in the 12th Century.
There are a few museums in the area, which chart the rise and history of the area and include a portrait of Geoffrey Plantagenet, which originally was part of his tomb, which is situated in the Cathedral.
Le Mans is a perfect place to come and relax away from the rigours of city life and take in the wonderful surroundings that are so abundant in the area.
