France Loire Valley

A Guide to Chartres

Chartres is a smallish town in the Loire Valley, with its main site being its beautiful Cathedral built between 1190 and 1260 some say that it is the fastest cathedral to have been built. The Cathedral sits overlooking the town and is considered by many to be one of the finest pieces of Gothic architecture not only in the country but also in Europe.

There are a few other sites to see in the town such as the church of St Andre, which is the site of art exhibitions and jazz festivals. You can also take an enjoyable stroll by the river as it meanders through the city.

Chartres is a beautiful town in the Loire Valley that is perfect for a few hours while passing through the area.
