France Loire Valley

A Guide to Angers

Angers is the capital city of the ancient kingdom of Anjou, and is situated on the bank of the river Maine. Two of the main reasons for coming to the city are the two tapestries, the first is the 14th Century Apocalypse and the second is the 20th Century Chant du Monde.

The first thing that you will see when you arrive in the town is the magnificent chateau which is an intimidating fortress built along the river. A short distance from the chateau is the beautiful Cathedral and many other churches around it.

There are also a number of museums, which have exhibitions on just about everything ranging from aeroplanes to communications methods.

Angers is a perfect introduction to the Loire Valley and is a must visit site if you are in the area.
