France Aquitaine

A Guide to Bayonne

Situated on the coast just 4 miles form the Atlantic and held out for a long time against the invasion of tourism. There are a few sites to see in the city though the main attraction of the city is that it is just a pleasant place to visit. There are a few places, which stand out though such as the Cathedrale Ste-Marie notable due to its twin towers and rising steeple.

There is also the citadelle built by Vauban in 1680 to defend the city against marauding attacks. There are also a few museums in the area with art exhibitions and charting the rise of the Basque area. The Jardin Botanique is a beautiful place to visit within the castle walls displaying plants from all over the country.

Bayonne is a beautiful city and the perfect place for a day out and must be visited when in the area.
