France Aquitaine

A Guide to Agen

Agen is a more picturesque town than it first appears. It lies between the towns of Bordeaux and Toulouse. The town throughout history has been ravaged by infighting between the Protestants and Catholics. There are many attractions and sites to see in the area such as the Municipal theatre and hopefully you will be lucky enough to catch a show.

There is also the Musee Municipal des Beaux Arts shared between the four 16th and 17th Century containing Roman and Medieval art work. There are also many churches to see which date back to the medieval times, including the Romanesque Cathedrale St- Caprais. There are also some of the original fortifications of the town still around which date back to the 1100’s. There are also many maisons in the town including the Maison du Senechal built in the 14th Century.

Agen is a quaint French town with many beautiful sites to see and is definitely worth a days visit when in the area.
