Description

Locanda L Elisa is a little deep-lavender villa in Lucca of the last 1800’s, only 5 minutes driving from the historical centre of Lucca, 25 minutes from Pisa Airport and 45 minutes from Florence one.

The town lies in a point of easy access and at short distance from some of the most known towns in Italy and in the world: Pisa with its Leaning Tower is only 15 minutes far, in 50 minutes you can admire the eternal beauty of Florence, and Versilia region with Viareggio in Liberty style, the famous Forte dei Marmi and Pietrasanta with Carrara marble’s sculptures are only 25 minutes far.

Lucca is a departure point for one day excursions in Siena and San Gimignano, to Cinque Terre or Portofino. The hotel is appreciated not only for his strategic position but even because, at the end of a day spent to visit historical towns, museums or other, it is always beautiful to come back home! Locanda l’Elisa is borned just for this reason and from the conviction, matured after years of experience, that only in little houses it is possible to give excellent but rich of charme hospitality at the same time.

The Villa is a restored construction, maybe from a Napoleonic official who came to Lucca following Elisa Baciocchi. Traces of this intervention have been recognized in the colours and in the decorations of the house and partially refound under the actual plasters and in the remainders of some decoration structures (parts of boiserie and internal frames) found in a building in the garden. In 1992 the house is open to the Guests who love the countryside, the peaceful life, rich of little and pleasant privileges.

10 rooms and sitting areas have been realized, all furnished with 1800’s furniture, clothes and moquette obtained from paintings of that age, boiserie and frames obtained from the ones refound here and made by artisans of remarkable value. Only 5 plants with tall stem remained from the previous garden because the space all around the villa has been completely transformed in a garden rich of shrubs, flowers, aquatic plants; it has been an huge commitment but the luxuriant and coloured vegetation, that now characterized it, seem to reward so much hard work.

A little and babbling brook frame the garden where there is an irregular shaped swimming pool (it follows the ground) which melts perfectly with the landscape. Over the final part of the swimming pool a little wood gazebo has been built, place of meeting for drinks, reading and relax. Guests of restaurant “Gazebo” can taste an high standard level cuisine which derives from new combinations and couplings for old savours and traditional dishes of local cuisine. A very good service and an excellent wine list accompany every dish.

For the restaurant room an English conservatory of Victorian Age and with a particular shape has been used: a semicircular glass window perfectly frames the room and it allows to taste every dish proposed by the Chef, in a romantic and evocative atmosphere, completely surrounded from the luxuriant garden full of flowers. Locanda L Elisa is a 5 stars hotel, part of the Relais & Chateaux since 1994.

It is composed by only 10 rooms equipped with the best comforts (telephones with direct external line, tv sat, radio, modem access, minibar, safe with a personal code, hair-dryer); all the rooms are furnished with tapestries and moquette, antique furniture and paintings of the age. The advanced level technical equipments allow a perfect acclimatization of the whole house, and suitable expedients, such as a double door, realized the complete sound-proof of the rooms.

It is said, sometimes, that people of Lucca created their landscape “as they have no other preoccupation than beauty”: a various and generous landscape, full of life and silence, paths through the wood, valleys, lawns, picturesque villages.

An island of green and history, located in the centre of north-western Tuscany, that have an enviable position, at few minutes from the sea of Versilia, at less than one hour by car from Florence, adjacent to Pisa, surrounded by Apennine’s mountains and by the spars of Apuane. The town, closed inside her wall, show herself little by little.

Only walking through the narrow ways of the historical centre and visiting the hundred and more churches and palaces we can discover the mystery and the magic of a past full of history and culture, of architecture of different epochs, but in a perfect formal equilibrium.

Lucca must be visited completely, because the historical addition of different style has created an harmonious building woven, still well preserved and legible.

Each contrast results agreeable, from the most severe Romanic to the most sumptuous Renaissance; a thread guides who walk through it, an impact that you discover immediately walking through the 4 kilometres of Wall that surround her as in an hug.

Lucca is actually one of the few Italian cities that has conserved intact her Wall, transformed, under Borboni, in a public walking, composed of tree-lined ways where until few years ago, it seems incredible, car races were held.
